There is Physical Evidence of Reincarnation
80
The idea of life after death has captivated human beings from the beginning of their history, when the most primitive forms of spirituality came into existence. Questions of the soul, heaven, a light at the end of the tunnel, God, and our purpose on earth have never lessened in abundance. Thousands of major and minor religions have attempted to answer these questions to provide for an explanation for the world’s mechanics and a meaning of humanity’s placement in the world. Each has produced its own interpretation as to what will occur when our eyes close for the final time. And while none of these beliefs have been universally proven or shared, each has managed to acquire its own following of believers.
Today, after the Scientific Revolution and the rationality to which it has given birth, many are uncertain as to which “Universal Truth” holds the true set of rules governing the workings of the universe. Several religions have been denounced, especially the major ones (Christianity, Islam, etc.), for being monopolies on people’s minds and guiding them down a narrow, tunnel-vision path. Therefore, with the great variety of voices and the presence of doubt linked to anything spiritual, it is difficult to form any assumption about what lies beyond the borders of life.
An Answer After All?
There are a series of fascinating occurrences which may finally provide an explanation to the most popular question in human history. This phenomenon revolves around the idea that human beings will live or have lived other lives after dying. Reincarnation, or being incarnated into another body, is central to the religions of Hinduism and Buddhism, but is a part of a number of other belief systems as well. Some think that there are references to reincarnation in Christianity, although the majority of Christians do not agree. But the evidence does not come from religious sources; ordinary people and events serve as possible examples.
Verified Personal Accounts
Literally thousands of children across the globe have recalled detailed past lives. While critics claim that the accounts might be influenced by parents and other sources, some have been checked out and proven to be quite accurate recollections of deceased persons’ lives.
- James Leininger – Obsessed with airplanes from the age of 2, James fascinated his parents by recalling very specific information about aircraft, from the names of different war planes to the names of specific parts on the vehicles. He had frequent nightmares of crashing his plane into a mountain that would wake him up in panics. The Leiningers became very engaged when their son began to tell them about his life as James M. Huston Jr., a fighter pilot who was supposedly killed in air combat. His parents did some research only to find that Huston really did exist and that his plane was shot down at Iwo Jima during the Second World War. The child was taken to Anne Barron, sister of the killed pilot, who verified the boy’s details about her brother.
- Numerous accounts verified by Dr. Ian Stevenson
- Born in Delhi, India, Gopal, a three year old boy, spoke about living in a city called Mathura which was 160 miles from where he lived. Among other details, he claimed to have owned a medical company and to have been shot by his brother. It was researched and found that the name Gopal had provided as that of his company, Sukh Shancharak, was in fact the very name of the shot man he had been describing.
- In Beirut, a young boy described in detail his past life of being a mechanic killed by being thrown from his car. The specific facts he provided, including his age and family members’ and friends’ names, checked out to be true. He was even able to recall the exact location of the accident which took his life. There was no reason to suspect the two families had ever come into contact with one another.
Dr. Stevenson's well known Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation contains such investigations, and is a very convincing source for anyone interested in pursuing further research on the topic.
Matching Scars and Birthmarks
One of the most astounding pieces of physical evidence for reincarnation lies in scars and birthmarks on children that correspond to wounds on a deceased person’s body. They are oftentimes in the same shape as the wound occurring in a child’s past life memory of an injury. The wounds are also verified by medical records, such as photographs and documents created for autopsy reports. According to Dr. Ian Stevenson, the leading authority on reincarnation research at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, some of the children have scar tissue too abnormally shaped and closely matching to be labeled purely coincidental. Examples of such marks include:
- scattered markings on a child’s chest that match with a shotgun blast to the victim’s chest
- scars on the exact area on the back of the head where the victim was knifed
- a boy born almost absent of fingers on one hand matching the described person’s amputated fingers
More examples of these findings along with photographs can be found in Dr. Stevenson’s book Where Reincarnation and Biology Intersect.
Speaking Unlearned Languages
Xenoglossy is the phenomenon in which a person is able to speak a language he or she has never learned. For example, a fluent German speaker who has had no contact with the German language either at home or has never been to Germany displays xenoglossy. Although quite rare, this has been scientifically observed and is another possible piece of evidence supporting reincarnation. Skeptics claim that young children, whose brains are sponges for information, can learn words and phrases of foreign languages through exposure from sources outside the home environment. However, a child’s intonation, the characteristic pitch and tone associated with a language or dialect, when speaking the language, is more difficult to explain. Unlearned Language: New Studies in Xenoglossy is a book entirely dedicated to the scientific study of xenoglossy.
Past-Life Regression
A fourth type of evidence, although less testable and reliable than the other three, is past-life regression. Past-life regression is a hypnotic technique in which the patient is put into a trance and guided by a series of questions into the vivid memory of her past-life or lives. The memory can be and often is as realistic as real life and memories in the current life. People who pursue the method are usually those with a desire for a spiritual experience or those who try it as a form of therapy. Interestingly, the majority of those who are in favor of the technique are slightly inclined to believe in reincarnation, while those who follow a religion in which it is preached do not advocate its undertaking.
The typical session between the patient and therapist takes place in private, and lasts between about one to one and a half hours. First, the two converse about the patient’s situation, expectations, and the procedure. Then, the patient relaxes and falls into a trance, in which she is still conscious to come out at any desired moment. The therapist often speaks of entering a portal, a door for example, through which the patient accesses the memories of another life. Throughout the process, the patient and therapist exchange words, the former speaking of her observations and emotions as the latter questions and guides her. After the regression, the results are analyzed.
Past-life regression is commonly performed as a remedy to one’s personal, often unexplained issues. According to regression psychotherapists such as Brian L. Weiss, M.D., recurring nightmares, anxiety attacks, and irrational phobias may be symptoms of disturbing past life experiences. While criticized for producing false, historically inaccurate, and even harmful memories, it has proven to have a therapeutic effect in many cases. Whether true or false, the experiences have shown to cure a number of problems: depression, anxiety, phobias, and other psychological and behavioral issues.
Examples of past live regression experiences include:
- An only-Chinese speaking surgeon from China experiencing and describing in fluent English her life in 1850s San Francisco.
- A woman who drowned in her past life 4,000 years ago, after undergoing the regression, no longer having the phobia of drowning in her current life.
- A childless woman experiencing her life as a Native American being killed and leaving her children behind.
- Being overweight in her current life and seeing herself as a starving villager foraging for food and dying of starvation.
Believers, open-minded individuals, and skeptics alike can undergo past life regression to see what results from the session. Therapists claim that it works on approximately 70-80% of patients.
A Conclusion?
Although some pieces of evidence, as past-life regression, can be heavily criticized for their unreliability, others are rather difficult to concretely denounce. It is strange to think how the almost-unbelievable stories of hundreds of children can be matched with real events, how the odd markings on a child can correspond to the wounds on an identified, deceased body. Reincarnation remains a topic thirsty for research. While it will never be accepted by everyone, as no belief has ever been, the phenomena surrounding the concept of life after death allows for hope that something does wait beyond the end.

Great examples and lots of food for thought on this topic. Very engaging hub!
Although I do not believe in reincarnation of the flesh I am however, at a lost - in most cases - for an explaination for the unexplained. I've heard of similar cases to the ones you described in your excellent hub. I am a believer of the paranormal but from a more logical viewpoint in that I believe everything can be explained either physically, pschologically, or spiritually. However, explaining it is not an attempt to disregard it or to pretend that the event does not, or did not take place. For an example when we talk about unexplained spiritual forces of the paranormal what we're really discussing are everyday events which, if studied from an objective viewpoint can in fact, be explained but only from the spiritual realm it originated. We attempt to defind spiritual abnormalities from a non spiritual viewpoint and the explanation is always illusive. To define an explanation for a paranormal activity require an understanding of the paranormal - which goes far beyond a basic understanding of matter, by which we can see, touch, smell, or taste. Paranormal activies or events has no relationship to these properties except through the limitations of conscious mind which unfortunatly only recognizes matter. The subsconcious mind crosses borders of both the real and unreal and it is this mind that mankind has not mastered yet.
Anyway, I am rambling. THis is a great hub which strikes to the core of my interests in atttempting to defind an explanation for the unknown.
Thanks for sharing!
Causes of Hemangioma
Several health including medical organizations have argue the motive of hamangioma. A number studies have made clear that the status of estrogen points to the outgrowth of hemangioma, while others suggest that it is evoke through a maternal placenta among its role in respect to maintaining some particles amongst gestation for a fetal dermis. Moreover, according to some doctors, genetic link cannot be lined out acting as one of the grounds of hemangioma in youth. Even though the grounds are still disputed, hemangioma’s occurrence is neither peculiar. As well, premature babies, girls, twins and infants with casual skin color are further prone to hemangioma. The main symptoms with regard to hemangioma are; blue or red colored spot, that forms or regresses further depending among the type, and mostly manifest around the neck, head, upper back and chest.

I believe that we are connected in one way or another so yes, I think it is very possible.
i have a dog 1 year old behaves like human only eats indian food
@Jaisimha: Are you trying to show your anger or dislike for Nehru or what? I didn't see any proof there.
Anyways, great hub !! I am beginning to like hubpages more n more.
Great hub, im gonna link to you.
I am only 14 but I find reincarnation and the unknown extremely interesting. When I am older I think I will go for a past-life regression! This is very interesting.
Reincarnation is a fascinating subject, even more so when there is possible evidence at hand. I'm always allured to the unknown. Anyway, I enjoyed this and thanks for writing such a nice piece.
This isn't convincing evidence. A boy is obsessed about planes. A lot of kids are obsessed with planes. When I was little I was obsessed with dinosaurs, especially T-Rex, and I was able to name several behaviors and characteristics that other children and adults didn't know. Does that mean I was a T-Rex in a past life? Of course not, it just meant that I knew a lot about them. These parents took their child's fascination of planes and projected their own imagination onto it. For all they know, they could have subconsciously heard this information on the History Channel when they were younger. In the right circumstances they could even have been taught information and been tricked into thinking it actually happened to them, as does in cases where therapists suspect their patient has repressed memories (such as rape) then later on convince their patients that it actually happened when it didn't.
The birthmarks aren't convincing either. Children are born with birthmarks on every part of their body in many different shapes.
a boy born almost absent of fingers on one hand matching the described person’s amputated fingers
I mean wtf? How superstitious are you to believe this is evidence of reincarnation? It's just a simple birth defect, tons of people are born without fingers, arms, eyes, etc.
Xenoglossy. Really? I wish they would try harder. My first language was Spanish and I'm American, born and raised. I don't speak it anymore, but I can understand it. That's because subconsciously I still retain all the information needed to speak Spanish, I simply don't have full access it consciously anymore. Childrens brains are like sponges, they soak all the information they've come across. There is nothing paranormal about it, it is just child psychology.
":Past-Life Regression", ha. This is even lazier than Xenoglossy. Once again, simple psychology and the use of the imagination.
Anyone who knows how to think critically will see right through this article, especially if they've dabbled in psychology. The people who wrote this article make tons of wide connections, but don't care to explain why. WHY are characteristics of the skin retained after being reincarnated? WHY would memory still be retained after reincarnation? WHY would linguistic skills be retained after being reincarnated? If they want to be taken seriously, they have to come to their own conclusions instead of pointing our their "evidence" and then saying "OOOOOOOOO you can't explain this through science! OOOOOOOOOOOOOO it's so mysterious OOOOOOOOO"
This is an interesting subject, regardless of fact or fiction, everything seems to go through cycles whether it is life here on earth or the birth, death & re-birth of stars in the universe. It is all quite interesting, but it's even more perplexing when you throw in the possibility of extraterrestrials from other planets.
What non sense are u giving regarding the scars on one's body..???Even if the person is the reincarnation of some previous soul, how can the scar which was on the soul's previous body appear on the new body??That old body is gone into the soil already..right???How can the soul carry the scar along with it and place it on it's new body..??????
What do thinking people think about coming back to this world as someone else. The young mother holds her dying baby in her arms, it's just karma someone tells her that her child must die. She looks in to the persons eyes with a cold stare, is this what a loving GOD is about.
Sorry people but reincarnation is not what the simple answers you think it is.
In GODS peace and question what might tickle your ears.
I don't just believe. I know reincarnation to be the Truth. The Christian church distorted and omitted this all important fact, which explains many unexplainable things like suffering and etc.
Sure, it's controversial. But I always say this to determined sceptics - explain conscious awareness. They never can. That is the key point in all these things.
Read, Holographic Universe by michael talbot.
Perfect description for how reincarnation might be operating.
Fantastic read I believe in this totally nice that others have a similar belief
Actually I would like to believe that there is
reincarnation, because qualitiatively, I am interested
in leading a better life than I live at the moment.
However, as I understand there appears to be only Circumstantial Evidence for re-incarnation -
really hard clinching mathematically precision
really provable evidence is no there.
Could you comment on this?

'The Gods Of Eden' by William Bramley touches on reincarnation and is a very interesting book (although some parts may be false). You can read a PDF for free if you google search for it.

I am amazed that it doesn't appear to occur to anyone that while we seek explanations for unusual phenomena through science, we are labouring under the assumption that science, as we know it, already has all the answers. What unaccpetable arrogance it is to assume that science has already discovered all that there is to be learned. It is healthy to be skeptical but who is to say that there is no correlation between science and what we perceive as the metaphysical? I have experienced many unusual phenomena during my life for which I have no rational explanation and I continue to remain open minded about these. However what I do believe, is that at some point in the future scientists will discover the reasons for the existence of such things as reincarnation, telepathy and precognition and that they will become an accepted part of normality. Who, after all, even a hundred years ago, would have believed you would be able to talk to someone the other side of the world on a tiny oblong gadget that has no wires or communicate instantly to anyone anywhere in the world on a small machine you can carry in your pocket? If you went back even further with such beliefs, you might have been burned at the stake!
We live in a cynical age of doubters and coarse mouthed fools. Those of low moral standards are never eligible for higher things that require faith in the eternal truth. They who are determined to remain in ignorance and continue in their sinful activities are like owls. They remain in a hole in a tree and refuse to accept the light of the sun. They go down!
Those of you who are good and do good to others. Who have not become cynical have faith. They will go up.
Good luck
Lorraine cut the bullshit.
Science does not have all the answers.
Reincarnation is an interesting topic. However I am not sure whether afterlife exists or not. I was a Buddhist(Though I have left it now). I believe there are things that can not be explained using existing science. We have not discovered everything yet. For example, Is universe is finite or infinite... no one knows. Can that be explained using mathematics or science ? So looking at everything wearing the glass of science is idiotic. Consider this question..Does life exist after death ? All of you have the answer either YES or NO. Those two answers are from science. Because for a question like that we have only those answers. But what happens if we have another answer. That is neither YES nor NO. That is also possible.
Ultimately the argument will fall based upon numbers. There must be a fixed quantity of souls to be reincarnated. Accepting this, how then can one explain the burgeoning human population?
Because new soals are created all the time.
If reincarnation is true, shouldnt there be more evidence? of 7 billion people leaving on earth, there should be more accurence of people remembering their past.
About the change in Earth's population, given that souls are non-material, they could come and go from the Earth and so souls may simply arrive from anywhere in the universe as needed.
This is logical that reincarnation happens. Without reincarnation this life has no mean to live. I would like to die right now if there is no birth after death. We have strong examples that supports the reincarnation.
reincarnation is absolutely real. We all carry impressions and memories and characteristics from the past. Reincarnation is the only theory that makes sense. For the first time in history, we can compare photos of modern people and compare them to their past life personalities. See www.johnadams.net
Very intresting topic. The cycles of the seasons and stars support this and how can a child remember their death and have a birth mark that matches the death and remember places they haven't been to that exists.
But people should try to be more open minded and agnostic.
It would'nt surprise me if it exists.
Most of these stories have people being reincarnated years and years later from their previous lives... but has there not been one in which the individual was reincarnated from the future? After all, time is not linear.
I believe in reincarnation because I have vivid memories of my past life and I've tried to convince people to no avail. I know fo sure that souls reincarnate and people make choices before they become bodies. The whole of nature is alive and souls are in all living things. I remember choosing to be a man and not a woman because of menses. I just wonder why so few remember!
I am a true believer of reincarnation. My sister Sadhana died on 21st December 2011. I daily pray to God that she might reincarnate and I shall meet her in her new life. I am posting this with a hope that if anyone ever knows somebody who says that she was having name sadhana in her past life, please let me know.

i believe because i have body marks and my last memory of ma last birth. i dnt want to say anything more abt it. because this is very unshared truth that cant be understood by society or any religious ....! this is one of the personal but pure truth that is standing on religious beliefs and scientific formulas..which is the cruel part of this world.
i know it is hard to say about it,but if we believe in god, even we can not see it.so,what's bad here to believe in reincarnation.after all we have many evidences regarding this topic:)
well, i have a reccuring dream that i am a girl and i get crushed by something, then immediatly after that i an ancient egyptian labourer carrying a sarcophagas into a pyramid and i fall down a hole. could this mean that i was an egyptian labourer in a past life?
I am a Sikh. Infact all eastern religions teach reincarnation, karma. Reincarnation is nothing but your mind materialising what it wants (or what it is attached to the most). When the body dies.. the mind (emotions, thoughts, ideas)..dont die. The mind doesnt die. They still alive and materialise itself taking another body.
What you will be in your next birth totally depends on what your thoughts were during the moment you died and what your thoughts are going to be totally depends on how you have lived most of your life.
If most of your life, you spend hurting others..then that is what is going to be in your mind during the time of death and your next life will be the consequence of what you did in this life.
Its all KARMA... ACTION=REACTION.
Hello

well I think it is real but you don't reincarnate for like a few million or billion years. .or whenever your atoms accidentally turn themselves into a human
well when your atoms ever combine again you will still be you again.. except it will be like brain surgery
Genetics partially explains Reincarnation. One could expect that if the memories are from the same family tree where there is genetic material being passed down , a trigger could evoke memories captured from the environment, as in Epigenetics.
One would be hard pressed to explain away genetic material that stretches over distances and years.
Perhaps Jung's Univeral Subconsciousness or Sheldrake's
Morphogenesis amy explain these events.
Reincarnation remains a mystery.

You give a convincing argument for reincarnation. I have heard of the Past Life Regression technique, but not the stories of the children. This is a very interesting hub!
